Barn Door Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the width dimension for my door? The 37 inch barn door is suitable for openings up to 36 inches. For larger openings, the 43 inch barn door supports openings up to 42 inches. A minimum of a half inch overhang on either side of the opening is recommended to ensure the light gap is concealed when the door is in the closed position.

What is the weight rating of the hardware? The included hardware supports a door weight up to 264 and a half pounds. 37 inch flush door styles weigh 99 pounds, 43 inch flush door styles weigh 114 pounds, 37 inch MDF door styles weigh 90 pounds, and 43 inch MDF door styles weigh 102 pounds. Flush door styles are Antique Bourbon Pine, Weathered Char, Timberworks, Reclaimed Oak, and Oxidized Beamwood. MDF door styles are Z and 2 panel.

Do I need to install the primed mounting boards? For drywall applications, the included primed mounting board is required. For concrete applications, the mounting board is not required.

What is the overall height of the door and rail assembly? The height of the door is 84 inches. The total height of the door and rail assembly for drywall installation is 87 and a half inches. The total height of door and rail assembly for concrete installation is 86 and a half inches.

What does the back side of the door look like? Door features the same look and appearance on both sides.

Can the door be installed over door trim? Yes, the door can be installed over most standard sized trim.

Does the door come with a floor guide? The door kit includes a floor guide and installation hardware, plus a door handle. 
Can the door be shortened or modified? To ensure maximum integrity and longevity of the door, sizing modifications are not recommended.

Can the handle be installed on either side of the door? Yes, the handle can be installed on either side of the door. Typically barn doors are only used with a handle on one side. A handle can be installed on both sides, but can interfere with proper operation of the door. Kit only includes one handle.

Does the hardware feature soft-close? No, the hardware does not feature a soft-close mechanism.

Can the door be painted or stained? The MDF styles are primed and can be painted to match your room colors. The flush styles feature a laminate finish and are not recommended for painting or staining. MDF door styles are Z and 2 panel. Flush door styles are Antique Bourbon Pine, Weathered Char, Timberworks, Reclaimed Oak, and Oxidized Beamwood.

Can the door be used as an exterior, outside door? No, they are exclusively for indoor use only.

Is there a double door option? These doors are a special buy and only come as a single door unit.

Does the door come in other sizes? Yes, there are two size options, 37 inches wide by 84 inches tall and 43 inches wide by 84 inches tall.
  
What are the dimensions of the cut guide slot on the bottom of the door? The guide slot runs the full length of the door bottom and is 7 millimeters wide by 28 millimeters tall.
